Kickstart: Pico – A simple intervalometer
The latest addition to the range of intervalometers that photograpers may choose from is the Pico – a small yet capable intervalometer that is well on its way to become a successful Kickstarter project.
While the Astro is about the shape and size of a hockey puck, the Pico is more like a thick coin. On its own the miniature device weighs no more than 11 grams (0.4 oz) – excluding the camera specific cable. Despite its miniature size, the battery is claimed to last no less than eight years.
Connected to a smartphone (iOS and Android) via minijack audio port, the Pico can be programmed to do advanced tricks like HDR, bulb ramping and speed ramping. The dumb function is even smarter: On its own, the Pico functions as a simple intervalometer. To set the shooting interval, just press and hold Pico, and count the number of beeps to reach your desired interval. Each beep equals one second. Let go and Pico will start shooting at the programmed interval until you unplug it.
At the time of this writing, the Pico is pledged $64,000 of the $100,000 goal, with 30 more days to go.
